MEMBERSHIP CARDSPlease note that subscribers to Ancestor only do not receive membership cards. This is a ‘perpetual’ membership card which will mean that we no longer need to send a card each year. They are plastic, similar to credit cards, and will be barcoded. What happens if I lose my card? If I have not notified you of my preferred name can I get a new card issued? How will I know my membership is due for renewal? Will I still need to wear my card in the library? How does this affect members? When entering the library, and when leaving it for the day, we will ask members to ‘sign in’ and ‘sign out’ by swiping their bar-coded card. The barcode scanner will be mounted adjacent to the entry door to the library. The scanner will beep when it successfully reads the barcode. If your membership is not current our receptionist will assist you. The benefits from the scanning will be the gaining of reliable statistical data from which we shall improve our knowledge of how to better serve you, our members. What do members need to do?All current financial members were sent cards in April 2006. New members are sent cards when they join. What happens if I lose my card?Replacement cards can be issued. There will be a cost of $7.00. Back to topAs the new cards have no ‘renewed to' date how can I use it when visiting other societies with reciprocal rights? We will be contacting all the societies we have reciprocal rights with. A number of them already have similar membership cards. Before you travel you will need to contact us and we will provide you a letter detailing your membership. Please allow enough time for this to be posted to you as you will need to produce the original document at the society you visit. Alternatively your Ancestor mailing label includes your 'renewed to' date, simply take that with you. If you have not made arrangements prior to travelling the society you visit will need to check with us to see if your membership is current and if you are eligible to use the reciprocal rights. This may incur a cost. Back to topIf I have not notified you of my preferred name can I get a new card issued? We will be happy to issue you a new card but there will be a $2.00 charge. Simply bring your card to the society to arrange a replacement. How will I know my membership is due for renewal? We will continue to send a renewal notice when your membership payment is due. If you are unsure if your membership is current please simply give us a call or send us an email. Remember your Ancestor mailing label also includes your 'renewed to' date. Will I still need to wear my card in the library? We still require members to wear their cards in the library. You can continue to use the card holders presently used by many members. From the bookshop we also have available GSV lanyards with a plastic holder that will take the card. These cost $5.00 each.
