GSV LIBRARY CATALOGUE - ONLINE SERVICES

These services are only available to members. New members will receive their membership details within approximately two weeks of joining the society. Members who have rejoined after a lapse in their membership will also have to wait approximately two weeks before being able to access the members only area. 

Online features for members include:

A large Genealogical Index of Names (GIN), currently over 600,000 entries to references in our library and elsewhere, is now available for members only. GIN comprises the two indexes held in our library called LION and LINX AUS, but without some entries because of copyright or commercial reasons. The LINX Overseas database is not included. Data will be added regularly to update GIN which we expect to grow steadily. Donations of electronic indexes to the database are welcomed. If you have indexed material or are working on an index, contact Linley or Clive to see if your format is compatible with our database.

Guided research may be used to filter the many records in the library catalogue and present the user with only the major records on particular places and topics with some background information and tips for beginners.

'New in the last week', and 'New in the last month' will enable members to keep right up to date with library acquisitions.

To access the Members Only area of our website go the the Home page and click on 'Members Login'

Key in your membership number and your surname (spelt the same as on your membership card /Ancestor mailing label), then click on ‘Login’. You may log on as many times as you wish, whenever you wish. After 20 minutes inactivity in the Members Only area, the system will log out. We expect members to observe the confidentiality of their membership number. There is a measure in place to detect abuse. If you encounter any problems [except the log-in procedure], please advise Linley via email or by phoning her at the GSV on Monday to Thursday between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. The catalogue for public use does not include all features and databases available to members.
