GSV LIBRARY - MEMBERS ONLINE SERVICES

These services are only available to members. New members will receive their membership details within approximately one week of joining the society. Members who have rejoined after a lapse in their membership will also have to wait approximately one week before being able to access the members only area.

To Login to Members Only Area enter your membership number and surname in the Login box on the right.

Once logged in, the Members tab appears (above right) offering access to Members Only features.

Online features for members include:

• Full catalogue entries. If you are a new user please access the help button on the Members Menu.
• Genealogical Index of Names (GIN), contains nearly 4 million entries to references in our library and elsewhere, is available for members only. GIN comprises the LINX indexes held in our library, some with images. However, not all entries are included for copyright or commercial reasons. Data is added regularly. Donations of electronic indexes to the database are welcomed. If you have indexed material or are working on an index, contact Linley or Clive to see if your format is compatible with our database. Members may use our free eResearch services in many cases to obtain further details of entries.
• Use our RSS link on the Members Menu to be advised when new material is added.
• Guided research may be used to filter the many records in the library catalogue and present the user with only the major records on particular places and topics with some background information and tips for beginners. This is the best starting point for newcomers to genealogy or a region.
• 'New in the last week', and 'New in the last month' will enable members to keep right up to date with library acquisitions. Or use the RSS link to target new specific information.

You may log on as many times as you wish, whenever you wish. After 20 minutes inactivity in the Members Only area, the system will log out. We expect members to observe the confidentiality of their membership number. There is a measure in place to detect abuse. If you encounter any problems please email us or phone during office hours.

The Guest Catalogue and Free Trial Name Search are for public use and do not include all features available to members.
