RESEARCH AT THE GSV

The GSV library is open to GSV members, visitors are welcome for a daily member fee. The extensive world-wide resources of the library include free use of Ancestry.com.au and findmypast.com.

The Research Department provides a service to undertake research within the Society's library. Members are offered some free research options, click on eResearch.

Extended Research

1. Extended Research is available for members at $25.00 per hour and for non members at $40.00 per hour which includes some copying and postal charges. An estimate of costs can be provided.

2. Members who live further than 100km from Melbourne can have two hours free research per year, which includes some copying and postal charges.

3. A request for Extended Research can be made by post, email or personal appointment. Please provide membership number and contact details.

4. Payment for Extended Research must be in advance by cash, cheque or credit card (Master Card, Visa). Credit cards may be used through the online shop on our web site www.gsv.org.au

5. Requests will be answered in order of receipt.

17th and 18th century documents (e.g. wills, deeds and marriage licences) can be transcribed. Latin translations are also available. An estimate of costs can be provided. The cost for members is $25.00 per hour and for non members $40.00 per hour.

Victorian probate papers 1841-2002 and Victorian inquest papers 1840-1985

We will obtain copies of these papers from the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) for members $20.00 and for non members $33.00. Copying and postal charges are extra.

Consultations

An appointment can be made for one hour with a research consultant. The cost for members is $25.00 per hour and for non members $36.00 per hour.

Look up service for non members

This includes looking up an index or a record taking no longer than 15 minutes and includes four prints and postage. Payment of $20.00 must be paid advance. Credit cards may be used through the online shop on our web site www.gsv.org.au
