British India Discussion Circle
At our next meeting, on Tuesday, October 15th at 730 pm by Zoom, Clare Claydon will talk about some of the words India bequeathed to the English language. Think “thug”, “kiosque”, “dungarees” and many more. If you want to know why we “Bless our cotton socks!”, why “Tickety boo” was an “in” word in 1920’s Britain, why you “run amok” or “bite the bullet”, then register now for the session on Indian words in English. This session may be of interest to other members of the GSV too.
For GSV members only. Free of charge.
Aim: To understand and gain further knowledge of our ancestors' connections to, and lives in, British India, including those who worked within the Home Establishment.
Meetings will discuss the records available at the GSV and other organisations in Australia, websites with relevant sources including The British Library, FamilySearch, Findmypast, FIBIS and TNA.
