If you are researching a person who arrived in NSW well before 1850 (as a convict, a government official, a marine, a soldier or a free settler) you need to know your way around a huge array of archival resources. Louise Wilson outlined the general framework of these resources in two articles headed ‘A Guide to Researching New South Wales Records’ and published in ‘Ancestor’, June & September 2018. This will be a ‘show and tell’ version of those two articles. Particular attention will be given to some of the more difficult aspects of these records, such as accessing PRO/AJCP records online, ‘old system’ records and parish maps.
Louise is a member of the Writers Discussion Circle here at the GSV and writes many articles for Ancestor. Her website lists quite a few books she has published. She has a blog and is on Facebook. Although her early career was in finance, she commenced full-time family history research in 1999.
