Scottish Day in the GSV Library (Morning)

Are you tracing your family from Scotland? Join us at the Genealogical Society of Victoria for a dedicated Scottish Library Day.  What was life like in Scotland back then?   Are you just beginning to look for your immigrant ancestors' Highlands or Lowlands home or are you trying to break through a long-standing "brick wall"?  Come along to get a taste of the GSV’s specialised resources.

What We Will Cover

  • Navigating the GSV Catalogue: Learn how to find Scottish family histories and indexes unique to our collection.
  • Scottish-Australian Records: Explore shipping lists, naturalisation records and church indexes relevant to Scottish arrivals in Victoria.
  • Mapping the Homeland: Get hands-on help using maps to pinpoint exactly where your ancestors lived before they emigrated.
  • Expert Research Tips: Discuss Scottish naming conventions, talk about how Australian clerks heard the Scots names through their accent.
