About the GSV

The GSV is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1941 to encourage and assist people with their family histories. This mission continues today with members from throughout Australia and overseas.

Research process

Our team of volunteers is keen to share their expertise and detective skills with newcomers. They will help you to use online resources effectively while raising awareness of the vast range of non- digitized records available in our library and elsewhere.

Research services

If you don’t have the time to do it yourself, our Research Services can help.

The GSV seeks to educate its members about genealogy, so take advantage and,

• Listen to entertaining talks on a wide variety of themes

• Attend seminars, workshops and special library days to learn the tools, processes and sources for family research

• Enjoy and learn from our award-winning journal, Ancestor which comes with your membership

The GSV has expertise and information sources, not only to assist members with Australia-wide genealogy, as well as for New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, mainland Europe, Africa, Asia, India, North America and many other parts of the world.
