AI for Genealogy

Welcome to the GSV’s AI for Genealogy Group—a dedicated space to navigate the evolving world of Artificial Intelligence in family history research. Our focus is on practical, real-world applications. We believe that technology should serve the genealogist, not the other way around. This group offers a safe, supportive environment where you can ask questions, share your experiences, and build confidence at your own pace—a safe environment entirely free from hype or pressure.

Aims

Our sessions are designed to be practical, inclusive, and discussion-based

  • Demystify AI: Provide a clear understanding of AI tools for those with little to no prior experience.

  • Bridge the Gap: Offer continuous learning for intermediate users through collaborative problem-solving.

  • Ground Technology in Genealogy: Focus specifically on how AI can assist with transcription, data organization, and family history storytelling.

  • Encourage Dialogue: Move away from "lecture-heavy" formats in favor of interactive, member-driven discussions.

Who may join?

  • This group is open to all GSV members, regardless of their technical background.

  • Beginners: Anyone curious about AI but unsure where to start.

  • Lifelong Learners: Researchers who have experimented with AI but want to refine their skills and stay updated.

  • Collaborators: Members who enjoy a "hands-on" approach and want to learn by doing alongside their peers.
