You’ve found your ancestors in the records, but what else can you discover about their lives? How can you place them in their historical context, uncover the details that bring their stories to life, and organise what you’ve found?

The final session of the GSV’s well-received Australian Family History Course is a full day seminar that will explore practical ways to take your family history research further. Through a mix of digital tools, newspaper research and timelines, you’ll discover new approaches to finding information and making meaningful connections between the records

The program features:

  • Your Digital Family Archive: Carole McCulloch of Essential Genealogy Academy will introduce WeAre.xyz and why it is a powerful alternative to static family trees and folders.
  • AI and family history: GSV’s Stuart Minetti will examine AI apps and how they can be used in genealogy research.
  • Trove & AJCP: GSV Library & Resources Manager, Trena Ronnfeldt will explore the wealth of material available through Trove and the Australian Joint Copying Project.
  • Case studies: Jill Trethewey, GSV member and author) will use case studies to demonstrate the power of newspaper research.
  • Building timelines: GSV Library & Digital Resources Manager, Meg Bate will explore timelines, an important tool for placing ancestors in context, connecting events and identifying gaps or new avenues for research.

Whether you’re looking for fresh research techniques or ways to make better use of the information you already have, this session offers ideas and resources to help you develop your family history.
