Family History Toolbox (FHT) Discussion Circle

Family History Toolbox

Aim

The Family History Toolbox (FHT) Discussion Circle aims to provide a dynamic vehicle for building members’ understanding of the ‘what and how’ of family history research.

In each session we will explore genealogical resources available to our members and demonstrate how to use the tools that access them, from GSV resources such as the Index of Names (GIN) and Milestone databases, to a range of other resources relevant to family history research. Each session will focus on a single topic, with guest speakers sharing how they use these resources and tools and offering tips to help you navigate them with confidence. Topics covered so far include the use of social media, preserving family ephemera, managing digital documents and images, working with online family trees, using Excel for family history, and researching on a budget. Members with experience in these and similar tools and resources will be on hand to answer your questions.

The sessions are designed to enable members to share their experiences about a wide range of subjects. All members will have an opportunity to contribute to the sessions.

Please note that from May 2026 we are merging with the "Good Oil" and will be known as the "Family History Toolbox". Sessions will be held monthly on a Thursday.
